Carey Edgar Newton Sr. age 82, of Wewahitchka, Florida, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 8, 2025. He was born October 5, 1942 in Grenada, Mississippi to the late Rev. Edgar LaVoy Newton and Mary Elizabeth Goodman Newton.
Carey graduated from the University of Florida in March 21, 1970 with a Bachelor of Building Construction Degree.
He spent the majority of his career employed by Fluor Daniel Construction as Civil Engineer Foreman with projects at Reynolds Aluminum Mill, Eastman Kodak Plant, Mead Paper Mill, schools and hospitals. His final and most exciting project was with Williams and Williams Construction of Macon, Georgia. He was Superintendent of a new build of the Virginia Hand Callaway Discovery Center, Restaurant and New Entrance of Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia.
Carey loved studying the Bible and was a true man of God. He was a kind, gentle, loving individual and will be missed by all who knew him. He touched so many people with his wisdom, patience, integrity, and wit. He loved the outdoors and camping.
Carey was a devoted loving spouse with an unwavering bond to Joy Melvin Wasmund of Apalachicola, Florida, to whom he was married on November 13, 1996.
Carey is survived by his wife, Joy; his children, Carey Newton Jr., Karen Breland, and Kristin (Chris) Jones; stepdaughters, Melea (Chris) Cox and LeeAnn Wasmund; 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Wendell Newton and LeVoy (Geraldine) Newton; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
