Eugene Allen Dykes “Gene”


Our beloved husband, father, pawpaw, brother, uncle and friend passed at home after his courageous battle against cancer on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 3am with his wife holding his hand and his family by his side. He is now in the loving arms of his Mother and Father Jeff and Jewel Dykes, his brothers Frankie and Terry Dykes and Sister Diane Watson.


Gene was born in Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida on December 20, 1951 his father served in the U.S. Air Force and moved his family to France and all over the country and eventually settling their home in Highland View after retirement. Gene attended Port St Joe high school where he met the love of his life and on February 5, 1969 they were married. Shortly after he Enlisted in the U.S. Army and was proud to serve his country in Panama Canal. He was a true soldier and patriot who served his country with honor and loyalty. After his service and returning home to Highland View he purchased a small shrimp boat and pursued his dream and love of the water. He also traveled all over the Country as a boiler maker. Gene was a member of the Highland View VFW post 10069 that his father founded. He was also very proud to be a Highland View resident and throughout the years was involved in projects to improve his community.


He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.


Gene is survived by his wife, Kay Daniels Dykes; sisters, Debra and husband Spike Stallings, Peggy and husband Scott Harris; son, Frank and wife Jeannie Dykes; daughter, Jennifer Dykes Richter; grandchildren, Stephen and wife Sommer Dykes, Levi Richter, Emily and husband Whitley LaMontagne, Dusty and wife Tory Richter, Austin and Katelyn Brake; great grandchildren, James and Ariya Dykes, Stetson, Rowen and Rhett Richter.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Hope Family Worship Center with Pastor Glenn Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery in Port St. Joe, Florida. A time of visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. Eastern Time.


Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
