Gordon "Buck" Preston Rhames

Gordon Preston Rhames age 88, known to his loved ones and friends as “Buck,” passed away at his home in Port St. Joe on Thursday, August 13, 2026, just days before his 89th birthday. 

Buck was a lifelong resident of Gulf County, Florida. His roots in the community ran deep, and his steadfast nature and warm presence touched those fortunate enough to know him. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960.

After his military service, Buck embarked on a distinguished forty-year career at Premier Chemical, where he ultimately retired as a foreman. 

Family was always at the center of Buck’s life. He cherished the simple joys of spending time with family.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Cindy Watson (David); his brothers, Curtis and Carl; his sisters, Katie, Nadine, and Faye; his grandson, Michael Watson; granddaughter, Rachel Jackson (Scott); and great-grandchildren, Scott, Lexi, and Grayson. He is also survived by a special niece, Liz Branch, who was a blessing to the family during Buck's sickness. He is also survived by many other nieces and nephews.

Buck was preceded in death by his father, Angus Rhames; his mother, Thelma Pitts Rhames; his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Bobbie Rhames; his son, Tony Rhames; his brothers, Amos, Troy, Donald Gene, and Lynwood; and one sister, Marie.

A graveside service with military honors to celebrate Gordon Preston “Buck” Rhames’s life will be held at Pleasant Rest Cemetery on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Family, friends, and all who knew him are invited to join in remembrance.

Buck’s commitment to family, country, and community will continue to inspire all who were privileged to know him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
