Gregory Rana "Greg" Oakes, 67, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025, in Port St. Joe, Florida. Born on November 28, 1957, in Rome, Georgia, Greg lived a vibrant and multifaceted life marked by entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and deep devotion to those around him.
Greg is survived by his wife Kelly Jones Oakes, his brother Terry Oakes, sisters Tammy Oakes Hughes and Gina Oakes Bennett, as well as his children, sons Jeff Oakes and Brian Oakes, daughter Megan Oakes, stepson Steve Sewell and stepdaughter Shanna Floyd. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Elizabeth Oakes.
Throughout his life, Greg demonstrated an exceptional drive and versatility in his professional pursuits. He owned and operated several businesses over the years, each reflecting a different facet of his dynamic personality. From running a gym and fitness center to managing a produce business and most recently owning a tattoo shop in Port St. Joe. Greg poured his energy and passion into every venture. His tattoo shop became not only a place of artistry but also a hub for connection within the community he loved. He was also an ordained minister.
Greg’s talents extended far beyond business. He loved cars and found joy in the thrill of the drag racing track. He also cherished time spent fishing—whether alone or with friends—and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. Known for his southern cooking skills, Greg delighted in preparing several of his favorite dishes for others and sharing meals that brought people together. His love of travel took him to new places and experiences that enriched his already colorful life.
A man of many talents with an unmistakable sense of humor, Greg was known for his loyalty to family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, and brother whose presence brought warmth and laughter to every gathering. Those who knew him remember not only his generosity but also how he consistently went out of his way to help others—a quality that earned him deep respect throughout his community.
Greg’s legacy is one of creativity, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those he cared about. His absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
