James Walter “J.W.” Hammond, 85, of Wewahitchka, Florida, born September 9, 1940, passed away, Friday, May 1, 2026, peacefully.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, wife Patricia Ann Hammond, son James Edward, his parents Walter and Flora Gaye Hammond, as well as a baby sister.
James is survived by his children, James Eric Hammond, Kimberlin Sue Roberts, Gordon Franklin Hammond, Jessica Ann Hammond Pitts and Michael Allen Hammond. He is also survived by his daughter in-law Tina Marie Hammond who he loved, a sister Becky Jill, and many grandchildren.
James proudly served 22 years in the United States Air Force as a Technical Communications Sergeant and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was awarded several important medals for his outstanding service. After many travels and retirement from USAF, he made his family a home in Wewahitchka.
J.W. offered various services to the community over the years such as roofing and general construction. He operated an arcade in Port St. Joe named St. Joe Fun Center for a time. He created a home business named J.W’s Fix It, selling used tires and offered general mechanic work. He was a very hard worker.
He loved his home town and loved helping people. He made a lot of friends over the years.
Dad had a strong belief in Jehovah God. We will miss you so much and we love you more than you’ll ever know, Dad.
There will be a private service held in his memory.
Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
