James Allan Newsome

James Allan Newsome, 59, of White City, Florida passed away at home on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 after a brief illness.

James was born on July 4, 1966 in South Carolina to Tommy and Kathrine Newsome. He was a 26 year veteran of the Gulf County Sheriff’s Department and a passionate bass fisherman who never missed an opportunity to stop at Bass Pro Shop.

James was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. When he wasn’t greeting visitors and sharing stories about his grandchildren at the Gulf County Courthouse he could be found speeding through the canal, headed to Lake Wimico in pursuit of the ultimate bass. Not only did he spend his life serving the community as a deputy, he also spent many years as a volunteer firefighter.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Stephanie; two children, Meagen (Travis) and Dani (Chris); 4 grandchildren, Stella, Maverick, Ava, and TJ; and two brothers, Paul (Linda) and DJ (Tonya).

A visitation will be held at Comforter Funeral Home on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 4:00 PM Eastern Time until 6:00 PM Eastern Time. 

Graveside services will be held at Pleasant Rest Cemetery on Sunday, March 15, 2026 at 3:00 P.M. Eastern Time with Pastor Michael Morris officiating. Caleb Morris, Joshua Morris, James (Moogie) Newsome, Corey Tolbert, Ricky Tolbert, and Joe Cole will serve as pallbearers. Richie Burkett will serve as a honorary pallbearer.
