Jane Ruth Griffies

January 11, 1949 — July 25, 2025

Port St. Joe, Florida

Jane Ruth Clark Griffies, lovingly known as Nana, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025 in Panama City Beach, Florida. She was 76 years old. A graveside ceremony will be held in her honor at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Allen Gray McMillan officiating.

Born in Talladega, Alabama, on January 11, 1949, Jane lived a life full of grace, compassion and always had a huge smile! A proud graduate of Talladega High School, Jane was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1968 and later held the title of Miss State Farm in 1969. She attended Jacksonville State University and went on to build a career as both a banker and a dedicated teacher at E.H. Gentry and the Alabama School for the Deaf. She was also a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Talladega from 1972 to 2005

Jane married the love of her life, Charles “Skip” Griffies, in March 1971. Their journey was marked by both deep joy and profound loss with the passing of their daughter, Ginger Griffies.

After relocating to Florida in 2005, Jane found happiness in sunsets, gardening, beach walks, and endless games of Mexican Train with her cherished girlfriends and family. She became an active member of Port St. Joe First United Methodist Church and found great fulfillment volunteering with the Care Closet, Two Fish Ministries, at the polls during election season, and at the Port St. Joe Welcome Center.

Jane is preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Skip” Griffies; her daughter, Ginger Griffies; her parents, Clarence and Naomi Clark; and her brother, Jasper Clark.

She is survived by her son, Charles “Chuck” Griffies Jr., and daughter, Brenda Griffies of Port St. Joe, FL; and her grandchildren, Presley Griffies of Tampa, FL, and Judson Griffies of Port St. Joe, FL — who will forever remember her as the best Nana.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Ginger Griffies Scholarship Fund at Talladega First Methodist, 400 South Street East, Talladega, AL 35160.

Howard Ray, Jason McKinney, Taylor Benton, Jay Milam, Jay Mitchell, Jack Hamilton, Daniel Patterson, Mark Stewart, and Tony Howard will serve as pallbearers.
