Jerry Lee Vickers, 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Howard Creek, Florida on Thursday, April 24, 2025. He was born on January 24, 1946, in Moore Haven, Florida and spent most of his life in Bay County, Florida before moving to the creek in 2018.
For over three decades, Jerry owned and operated his own paint and body shop, earning the respect and loyalty of many in his community. He was not merely a businessman but a craftsman who took pride in every vehicle he restored with care and skill. After this, Jerry dedicated more than ten years to traveling as a millwright, a vocation that showcased his mechanically inclined mind and unyielding work ethic. His military service in the Army Reserves for eight years further reflected his commitment to discipline and service, traits that he carried throughout his life.
Jerry's love for the outdoors was matched only by his passion for fast cars and racing, with a particular fondness for NASCAR and drag racing. He found joy in the simplicity of fishing and hunting under the vast Floridian sky. In recent years, he cherished nothing more than sitting on the front porch at the creek, sharing quiet sunsets with his beloved wife, Kathy Vickers. Their marriage, spanning a remarkable thirty-seven years, was a pillar of strength and harmony in his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Vickers, who remains a testament to their enduring partnership. His legacy continues through his son, Terry Vickers and his wife Rebecca of Southport, Florida, as well as his two daughters, Deona Vickers of Port St. Joe and Madison Vickers of Dalkeith. Jerry's familial bonds extend to his brother, Ray Vickers and his wife Cathy of Albuquerque, New Mexico, alongside two sisters, Sheila Davis of Panama City and Arica Dutton of Southport. He leaves behind two granddaughters and one grandson.
Jerry’s journey was not without loss. He was preceded in death by his parents, R.C. Vickers and Joyce Gunn Vickers, and he mourned the untimely passing of his son, Jay Vickers, as well as his brother, Chip Vickers. These are the voids in his heart that remained as testaments to love given and love lost.
A graveside service will be held in his honor on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM Central Time, at Millville Cemetery in Panama City, Florida.
In the hearts of those who knew him, Jerry Lee Vickers will forever remain a source of inspiration, love, and cherished memories.
Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
