Jessie Lee Owens, age 68 of Wewahitchka, FL passed away April 18, 2025. He was born on September 6, 1956, to the late Lorenzer and Earnestine Owens. Jessie was a devoted husband, father, friend and avid fisherman whose impact will be felt for generations to come.
He was reared as a youth in New Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverand Nemiah Bowers and then later became a member of Carter’s Temple First Born Church under the leadership of Pastor Bradford Johnson until his demise.
Jessie’s educational journey began at Carver High School. He graduated from Wewahitchka High School in 1975 and soon after enlisted in the Army, where he was part of the 3rd Infantry Division, 05 Charlie and was later honorably discharged as a Disabled Veteran. He met his wife, the late Wande Faye Owens in Spring Lake, North Carolina and was married for 45 years until her passing on August 27, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his son; Terrance Bronson-Owens, siblings; Willie James Owens, David Lee Owens, Johnnie B Owens, Ernest Peace, Jr., Leon Owens, Richard Lewis Owens, Sheila Ann Fisher, Joe Tyson, Jr., and Bobby Tyson.
Jessie is survived by his children, Wanda Sherell (Hakeem) Godfrey, Fayetteville, GA, Keith Lamont Bronson-Owens (Vita), Spring Lake, NC, and Isis Johnson-Owens, Panama City, FL; grandchildren, Kenniece, Khadijah, Jaquan, Keyontae, Keyonna, Keyondria, Alicia, Keith Jr., Kamara, Noel, Nyelle; and four great-grandchildren. Three sisters, Lorene Owens-Caldwell (English-deceased), Geraldine (Robert) Harvis, both of Panama City, FL, and Freddie Mae Jackson, Palatka, FL; two brothers, Lorenzer (Gwendolyn) Owens, Jr., Lynn Haven, FL and Michael (Phillis) Williams, Neptune NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Jessie Lee Owens’ legacy of love and family will continue in the hearts of those he touched, and he will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 at Carter's Temple First Born Church at 12:00 P.M. Central Time with visitation beginning at 11:00 A.M. Central Time. Interment will follow at Williamsburg Cemetery.
Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
