Laura Lorraine Anderson, born on May 3, 1959, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 30, 2025, in Mexico Beach, Florida at the age of 66. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she touched the lives of many during her time with us.
A proud veteran, Laura dedicated over twenty years of her life to serving in the United States Air Force before retiring. Her commitment to her country exemplified her strong character and sense of duty. After her military service, she pursued her passion for animals by becoming a dog groomer and establishing her own business. Known affectionately as the “Dog Whisperer” by her friends, Laura’s love for dogs was profound, reflecting her kind heart and compassionate nature.
Laura found joy not only in grooming dogs, but she also volunteered a lot of her time to helping others through Two Fish Foodmarket which is part of First United Methodist Church. She took
Pride in the work she did there and looked forward to her weekly visits. Laura cherished building relationships with the community, creating lasting memories that will remain in their hearts forever.
Laura is survived by her son, Lawrence T Anderson and his wife Darlene of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her brother, Christopher DeWitt and Christine Collotta-DeWitt of Arizona; her sister, Kelli Nina Trenette Clark of California; her grandchildren, Michael Alexander Foster, Anthony Lawrence Anderson, and Joshua Price Anderson; her great-grandson, Hunter Greer Anderson; her mother-in-law, Sally A. Anderson of St. Joe Beach, Florida; nieces and nephews, Tasha Irene Turner, Nathaniel Louis Clark, Bryanna Janel Nickole Clark, Alexander DeWitt, three great nieces and one great nephew. Laura is also survived by her longtime best friends, Margaret Petcoff and Lisa Nassif who were like sisters to her.
Laura is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Steven Howard Anderson; her parents, Lawrence William DeWitt and Sandra Kay Zehring; and her father-in-law, Colonel Howard H. Anderson.
A memorial service to honor Laura’s life and legacy will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 1:00 PM Eastern Time at the Beach Chapel Baptist Church in Port St. Joe, Florida with military honors. There will also be a gathering at the local VFW immediately following the service.
She will be remembered not only for her unwavering devotion to her family but also for her exceptional ability to connect with all living creatures, particularly the dogs she adored. Laura’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those she loved and inspired.
