Port St. Joe, Florida

Leidy Monroe Smith Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, friend, passed away peacefully at home in Port. Joe, Florida, on Monday, December 2, 2024, at the age of 53, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 14, 1970, in Kileen, Texas, Leidy carried a spirit that was as vast as his talent. He embarked on a journey to Florida motivated by the opportunity to assist in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, and through his hard work, he found not just a career but a home.

In his professional life, Leidy was a remarkably skilled craftsman, often referred to as the "Every Stuff Guy" for his ability to build and repair an endless variety of things. His work ethic and craftsmanship were hallmarks of his character, and he took great pride in every project he undertook. Those fortunate enough to know him often remarked that while he stood at just 5'1", he was the tallest man they ever knew, embodying strength, determination, and an unwavering spirit.

Leidy found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed kayaking adventures with his wife, Tamra Covert, and their two Chihuahuas, as well as swimming in the tranquility of their pool. These moments were cherished by him and his family, reflecting his love for the outdoors and the serenity it brought.

He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Tamra Covert of Port St. Joe, Florida, his children Halita Jacks, Leidy Monroe Smith III, Gregory, Christopher and his brother Donald C. Smith. He was a proud grandfather to Morgan and Alexander, whose lives he touched deeply. Leidy also leaves behind three furry companions, Bruno, Chico, and Jasmine, who were part of his cherished family life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leidy Monroe Smith Sr. and Maxima Smith, his daughter Heather Smith, and his brother Mark Smith, USMC. He was also predeceased by three fur babies, Savannah, Kali, and Jackie, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open paws.

As we remember Leidy Monroe Smith Jr., we celebrate a man who lived life with passion, creativity, and a unique spark that touched all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His kindness, strength, and unyielding love for his family will forever be remembered and cherished.
