Lyle Van Sizemore

Lyle Van Sizemore, age 75, of Wewahitchka, Florida, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025.

He was born on August 4, 1949, in Elkridge, West Virginia, and graduated from Jefferson Area High School in 1967. Lyle spent his career working as an industrial maintenance mechanic and retired from RMI Extrusion Plant in 2004. After retiring, Lyle and Susan moved to Wewahitchka, Florida, where he built their home nearly on his own—a true testament to his craftsmanship and work ethic.

On June 21, 1968, Lyle married Susan Allen. Their marriage was a true partnership that spanned nearly 57 years. Their bond is a lasting example of love, commitment, and grace.

Lyle was a man of many talents—a true jack of all trades with a gift for fixing just about anything. He never hesitated to help others, whether it was a neighbor in need or a stranger with car trouble on the side of the road.

In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, gardening, camping, boating, traveling, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed his dogs. He had a strong faith in God and often said, “Jesus has His hand on my shoulder.”

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Thelma Alease Sheets and Jennings “Jink” Sizemore; his sisters Faye (Homer) Winfrey, Bonnie (Fred) Lightman, and Wanda Hanson; his brothers Larry (Wanda) Sizemore and Blair Sizemore; and his son Richard (Jackie) Sizemore.

He is survived by his wife Susan; his siblings Maxine (Wayne) McCoy, Dottie (Bob) Placek, Gerald (Carol) Sheets, and Bruce (Karen) Sizemore; his children Terrence Sizemore and Jennifer (Lonnie) English; grandchildren Sarah (Justin), Marshall (Emilee), Megan, and Emily; and several great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are entrusted to the caring staff of Comforter Funeral Home in Port St. Joe, Florida.
