Mason Banks Dees

May 24, 1965 — January 2, 2026

Wewahitchka, Florida

Mason Banks Dees, born May 24th, 1965, passed away on January 2nd, 2026, at the age of 60. Mason was a lifelong truck driver who proudly spent nearly forty years on the open road. It was there, in the cab of his semi, doing what he loved most, that he finished his final earthly journey.

Mason was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Louise Mack Dees; his father, Charles Frederick Dees; his brother, Charles Frederick Dees Jr; his aunt, Wanda Elmore; and his uncle, Claude Dees as well as many other family members and friends who have been waiting to wrap their arms around him again.

He is survived by his sisters Audra Hoover (Mikel), Velvet Dees, and Jessica Blackburn (Taylor); and his brother Justin Dees (Tara). His son Bryce Bishop and grandchildren, Kayson and Preslee, his aunts, Pat Samon and Ann Bordner.

He is also lovingly remembered by his nephews Christopher Hoover (Jessica), Colt Hoover, Isaac Martinez, Bucky Harrell, Joshua Easter, T.J. Easter, Allen Easter (Stephanie), and James Harrell (Diane); his nieces Samantha Hoover, Natalie Hoover, Nevaeh Hoover, Ariel Easter, and Amelia Lynn; along with many more nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family who cherished him.

Mason had a great many friends who were like family. His best friend Ed, and his dear friends Diane and Jackie, along with countless others, will miss his humor, loyalty, and easygoing spirit. To know Mason was to know someone who told stories with a grin, loved deeply in his own steady way, and found peace in the rhythm of the highway- he finally found a stretch with no weight stations, no traffic, and nothing but open sky ahead.

Mason took pride in his life as a truck driver and loved the freedom of traveling across the country. The hum of the engine, a sunrise in the mirrors, and miles of open highway was his happy place.

Just as much as he loved the road, he loved coming home to his family. Many afternoons turned into late nights working on race cars and go-karts with his nephews and niece Natalie, covered in grease, laughing and joking, and staying as busy as he possibly could. He was, without question, the best one-man pit crew there ever was!

He shared countless laughs, stories, inside jokes, and especially meals with the people closest to him. Around Mason, there was never a dry or dull moment- if he was there, you were laughing! He was the one you could call at any hour, and if you needed anything, he showed up- no questions asked; well, at least not until after he got there. His family knew they could lean on him, because he was always there, in his own steady and dependable way. We will all be lost without him for a while as we learn how to live in a world that doesn’t have his voice, his laugh, or his reassuring presence.

Mason will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his presence. Though his road here has ended, his journey continues in the hearts of those who love him.
