Master Sergeant Byron J. Copp Jr., USAF, Ret.

Master Sergeant Byron Copp, Jr., US Air Force, Retired, passed away on the evening of Saturday, August 29, 2026. Born September 8, 1959 to Byron Copp, Sr and Patricia Lovell. He is survived by his siblings Debra Copp Stanton (Gary) of Bath, NY, Jacki Copp Satterlee (Kate), Elmira, NY, Karen Copp Phillips, of Charlotte, NC and Robert Copp of Panama City, FL. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great niece and nephew as well as an Aunt Elinor Copp of Branch Port, NY, cousins and hundreds of friends including David Steele whom he served in the military with and has remained friends with.

Byron graduated from Southside High School class of 1977. He attended B.O..C.E.S. while in school learning the carpentry trade. He worked in the installation of swimming pools for Diffenderfer Pools, and was a bartender for Myhaulicks in Elmira, NY. He began his military career in 1983. He served during Desert Shield and Desert Storm under direct report to Colin Powell. His assignments would take him around the world including Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, Korea; Stateside his first base was Griffiths Air Force Base in Rome, NY, MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL and finally serving in the logistics department between the US and Canada at Tyndall AFB which is where after 18 years he was discharged as a 3 Star Master Sergeant. As a young man growing up he became an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. We all knew he was building a life of service as far back as 8 years old. He played baseball in Mark Twain Little League. He loved animals and was the proud Dad Dog to many. Including Buddy, Brewster, Harry Potter, Slider and Baby Our brother made us proud to be his siblings. May God watch over him.
