Myrle Sumner Jones

September 23, 1932 — May 14, 2025

Wewahitchka, Florida

Myrle Sumner Jones was called home to the Kingdom of God on May 14th, 2025 at the incredible age of 92. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones. Myrle was born into this world in Vialis, FL, as the second daughter of nine children to the late Clyde and Hattie Sumner on September 23rd, 1932. She married the love of her life John “Bo” Jones on June 1, 1952. Together they had three children, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a wealth of happy and loving memories.

With her passing, the world is a little dimmer, a little less colorful, and a little less musical. She was loved and cherished by more than just her family; known to many and more as “Miss Myrle,” or “Aunt Myrle,” a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Wewahitchka as a woman of Faith and perfect posture. She was the sort of person who left a Good Impression no matter who she met, no matter the circumstances. She always had a ready smile and a gentle hug for anyone who needed it, and the ache of her loss will be felt sharply by the entire community.

Myrle was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband Bo; her older brothers and sisters-in-law: Edmund & Alleen Sumner, Lewis & Doris Sumner, Amos & Earlene Sumner, Carl Jr. & Betty Joan Sumner; her sister and brother-in-law Margaret & Bob Wells; and younger brother Sterling Sumner.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Gerry & Sonia Jones, Roger & Carol Jones, and Susan Taylor; her grandchildren and their spouses: Stacey & Craig Kelly, Jesse Jones, John Grady Jones, Katie Jones & Lucas Gramlin, and Breanna Taylor; and two great grandchildren: Jordan and Troy Kelly. Myrle is also survived by two of her seven brothers: W.C. & Henrietta Sumner and Alvin & Pat Sumner; as well as her sister-in-law Diane Sumner, wife of the late SterlingT.

his may seem like a long list, but the true size of her family was even greater. Myrle’s Influence, Wisdom, and Unconditional Love was spread far and wide throughout Northwest Florida. She was referred to by many as “The Matriarch” and served as the long-standing glue that held the fabric of the extended Sumner family together. Whether they know it or not, everyone in the community has felt the impact and influence she had on the people around her, regardless if she knew them for a day or a decade. She was the epitome of everything Good in this life and the effects she had on the lives of others will continue to be felt for generations
