In Loving Memory of Opal Faye Brogdon
Opal Faye (Fortner) Brogdon, of Wewahitchka, Florida, went to be with the Lord July 5, 2025. Born on March 13, 1948, she lived a life marked by strength, faith, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Opal was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Danny C. Brogdon; and her parents, Herman Fortner, Wanda Fortner, and Lillie DeMont; along with three sisters.
She is survived by her children, Candi Laird and Charles Laird Sr. (Brenda Sue), and was a proud and loving grandmother to Tiffany (Travis) Giddens, Jennifer Rhodes, TJ Rhodes, Charlie (Kaitlyn) Laird, Megan Whittington-Aguire (Jeff), and Cassie Whittington. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to James and Ashton Rhodes, Autumn Blair, Walker Laird, Tinsley and Tuff Giddens.
Opal is also survived by a sister Dora Mosley, niece Denitra and two great nieces; brother-in-law Charles Brogdon, niece Ashley Brogdon (Gary), nephew Griffin Gettman, as well as her cousins Willard (Becky) Moseley of Panama City, FL, and Donna Daniels, John and Junior Hagans of Esto, FL. She leaves behind many additional cousins, relatives, and extended family members who loved her dearly.
Opal spent many years working as a bookkeeper and medical office administrator, where her dedication and work ethic were widely respected. But her greatest devotion was to her family and her faith. A woman who loved God wholeheartedly, she was deeply committed to her church and church family.
Those who knew Opal will remember her as strong-willed, tough, and selfless. She was the heart of her family- faithful, loving and full of life. Her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether she was cooking a favorite meal, offering words of wisdom, or sitting outside enjoying nature, her presence was a steady anchor, and her love was a gift that will continue to shape her family for generations.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Opal’s life will held at New Harvest Fellowship Assembly of God in Wewahitchka on Friday July 18, 2025 at 11:00 AM CST with a time of visitation beginning at 10:30 AM CST.
A private interment will be held at Buckhorn Cemetery in Wewahitchka, Florida.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
