With both sorrow and grateful hearts, we celebrate the life and homegoing of Reuben Preston Farmer, who received his eternal victory on December 2, 2025, at the age of 77. While our hearts feel the loss of his presence, we take comfort knowing he is now face to face with his Savior, Jesus Christ, the One he trusted, followed, and the One he longed to see.

Born on July 6, 1948, to Preston Ebert Farmer and Annie Mae Farmer, Reuben lived a life shaped by faith, humility, and gratitude. When asked how he was doing, Reuben always replied with, “I’m better than I deserve.” That wasn’t just a phrase, but a mere reflection of his grateful heart, knowing that every blessing, breath, and moment of joy was only because of God’s grace.

Reuben was preceded in death by his parents, Larry Farmer (brother), Michael Wilson (Son), and Angela Farmer (Niece).

Reuben leaves behind his devoted wife of 39 years, Wanda Farmer. He is also survived by his 3 children, Ron Farmer, Debbie Williams (Sammie), and Paul Beasley (Barbie); his 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and his special niece (Rebekah), all of whom he cherished deeply. Nothing could bring a smile to his face quite like the presence of his grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy and earthly legacy.

Reuben worked at the St. Joe Container Company/ Box USA for 30 years until it went out of business. He then attended Gulf Coast State College Law Enforcement Academy where he received his law enforcement certification. After graduation, he began a 16-year career with the Gulf County Sheriff’s Office before retiring in 2014. During retirement, he worked part time for several more years as a Deputy Sheriff Bailiff for Gulf County. His position in law enforcement reflected his heart of service. He took great pride in serving his community, a community where he was highly respected.

Reuben was passionate about the outdoors and felt closest to The Lord sitting in his tree stand, waiting on “the” buck, enjoying God’s creation. It would not be uncommon for one to drive by seeing Reuben on his zero turn, taking care of the yard. He found pleasure in the simple things such as gardening and “tinkering” in his barn, where he spent most of his retirement days, with a kind smirk on his face and a diet coke in hand.

Reuben was a man of few words but those who knew him, knew the importance of stopping to listen when he spoke. He was full of wisdom and did not hesitate to give sound advice when needed.

Reuben’s greatest legacy was his faith. He didn’t just talk about Jesus; he walked with Him. He lived a life surrendered to his savior. Those who knew Reuben, didn’t just hear about Christ, they saw Christ reflected in him.

We grieve, but not without hope. Reuben has finished his race, kept his faith, and now stands in the presence of his Lord. May his life and legacy point every heart toward the Savior who made him “better than he deserved.”
